BALLET'S TOP 10 - DON QUIXOTE

The story of the ballet "Don Quixote" is inspired by the famous Spanish novel "Don Quixote" written by Miguel de Cervantes in the 17th century. The ballet, meanwhile, was created by choreographer Marius Petipa to music by Ludwig Minkus. The first performance of the ballet took place on December 26, 1869 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

The story of the ballet follows the adventures of the main character, Don Quixote, a whimsical knight who embarks on extravagant quests to uphold the values of chivalry and fight injustice. In the ballet, Don Quixote is accompanied by his faithful squire Sancho Panza.


The plot of the ballet focuses on the love between Kitri, a strong-willed young girl, and Basilio, a barber. The two lovers are prevented from getting married by Kitri's father, who prefers to see her marry a wealthy aristocrat. It is then that Don Quixote intervenes, convinced that Kitri is his beloved Dulcinea. With the help of Sancho Panza, Don Quixote embarks on a series of adventures to reunite the two lovers and triumph over the opposition of Kitri's father.


The ballet "Don Quixote" is known for its energetic and technical choreography, including the famous variations of the dancers. Key moments in the ballet include the famous pas de deux between Kitri and Basilio, the famous "Grand Pas de deux", as well as Spanish folk dances which bring a colorful and festive atmosphere to the piece.


Since its creation, "Don Quixote" has become one of the most appreciated and performed classical ballets all over the world. Petipa's choreographies are often preserved in modern productions, but new interpretations of the piece have also been created by other choreographers over the years.


"Don Quixote" is a ballet that mixes romance, comedy and adventure, providing a captivating experience for the audience and showcasing the technical and artistic skills of the dancers.
